Mother's Day Skype

We got to talk to Alexander today on Skype.  If you don't Skype, it's a really easy videoconferencing and it's free.  So we got to see him too. He looks great! He said the food was great and he could shop there.  He buys cake mixes, chicken and rice.  There is a restaurant close by that sells terrific chicken with fries and salad.  He said the people had been really nice to him and are nice about helping and sharing.  He was amazed at all the stars he could see!  And there are monkeys but he hasn't gotten close to one yet.  They seem to be afraid of him.

He's taking pictures but we won't get them until an elder is heading home to the US and can take an SD card with him to mail for us once he gets here. We mailed Alex a box two weeks ago and it hasn't arrived yet.  We were also told that they are only allowed to receive two boxes a year because of the cost of paying customs and the time it takes to transport them to the missionaries from the mission home.  So we won't be sending boxes for a while. But he is taking pictures! We will just get a bunch all at one time.  I'll put them up when I get them!

He sounded in good spirits and seems to be very happy there.  He is working hard on his Portuguese.  I sure look forward to some pictures! He said it looks just like Lion King there... he asked around to see if Pride Rock was anywhere nearby, but no luck yet. I'm sure he'll take great pics when he finds it!

City yes bikes yes...jk So yes we live inish the city the church building is a house but we will soon be upgraded from a group to a branch ooa ooa ooa and thats pretty exciting then we are going to be looking at getting a chapel!!  The Elders here roc my companion rocs, the house rocs, the stars roc, the people roc the food from the one place I ate rocs, and the people here are soo humble and they will share anything they can and will try to help you if they can they're awesome.  It is so nice to be out of the MTC and out here where I can make my own food, teach real people, live with elders that want to work and around people that want to be baptized.  We have an investigator that can't read but he is trying to learn so that he can read the B.O.M and everytime we teach him a principle he instantly applies it, like smoking and drinking and going to church!!!  It is sooo exciting seeing an investigator progress and come to church and just try to be better.  I will try to write down my thoughts everyday so I can just copy them into and Email because it is really hard to think when I am paying for time on the computer...Oh money is not at all a problem here...not even slightly, if I don't go crazy I will be fine...but if you want to send me stuff I am NOT EVER going to ask you not to and real chocolate here is hard to get.
anyhow I love you all!!! please girls if you can please just write me straight Emails because if you are writing me dear elders I havent gotten any and it might be a while...but i get to check email once every week and i would love to write directly to you both!!!!
I Love you all sooooo much and can't wait to talk to you, we are allowed to use skype so if you can please prepare a computer(probably my laptop combined with the projector...just an idea)and if you can try to coordinate with philip so we can all talk to each other thru skype!!!! that would be way cool!           I LERVE  EWEZZZZZ

He's in Chimoio!

THANKS MOM YOU ROC!!!  This place is way wierd I am still brand spanking new here so I don't have a whole lot to say do send...sorry I am going to work on getting some pictures of the apartment and everything else for you but it's wierd its hard to describe everything right now.  My companion is way cool as is my district...the money is new (lol) we are in a bike area OH and I am serving in chimoio it's near the middle of mozambique and it is the coldest place int the country.  I might write u multiple emails because u wrote me multiple so yea I LERVE EWE!!!!        KAPLAGH!!!!!!!!!

ZOMG mom u roc.  I am sorry I didnt get to talk to you after jo-burg(johannesburg) but the president just had us send an email to let u know we arrived in one piece(which I may have sent to the wrong E-Mail :( ) But anyhow my companion is from cape verde which is a group of islands u cant see off the most north western tip of africa, he speaks great portuguese and is teaching me and i am teaching him english :)  Our house is better than i imagined and i am excited to send you pictures of it.  I havent done any real proselyting yet and sunday we saw conference(lol).  The elders here say it is really hard to write letters back and forth so they just E-mail everyone which I might end up doing but I am going to try writing letters because I can think and type it seems.  while i was in mozambique we took a few shopas which are basicaly vans with more seats and they are used as busses which cost 5 meticais per ride so its a cheap way to get around but we will be riding bikes in my area...I'm not sure how I feel about that yet.  The president and his wife are really cool, they like all the ties I have worn so far (lol), they have a color system for classifying missionaries red, yellow, white, and blue its a psycology thing the said and everyone is one of those colors I am white with quite a bit of blue my companion is yellow there is one blue elder in my district and the rest are white as well, I don't know how to explain well but it should be easy to find out more about it online.  I will try to find more to write about next week but i love you all and hope you are all doing well!!!   KAPLAGH!!!!!!

The Color Thing - Hartman Color Code

I totally swiped this right off Wikipedia.  It's the Hartman Psychological Color Code--

(So disclaimer here I don't believe people fit into boxes this small but whatever!!)

Classify the Motive Types

The driving core motives are classified into four colors: Red, the power wielders; Blue, the do-gooders; White, the peacekeepers; and Yellow, the fun lovers. It is a creative way to simplify this system for your understanding and use. This simplification sometimes causes people not to take the Color Code seriously, however, that is a mistake. The Color Code at first glance represents a fraction of the whole. Hartman believes the system is simple and at the same time profound.
Others are not so sure. As Nietzsche said, "What labels me, negates me."

Reds: The Power Wielders

Reds are the power wielders of the world. Reds use logic, vision and determination. From a Red perspective, emotion has nothing to do with completing tasks.
Red Strengths It is an ego problem which causes intolerance of others’ ideas. They are also timely.
Red Limitations They are demanding. Reds lack compassion. If they develop the gift of compassion, Reds are hard to beat.

Blues: The Do-gooders

Life is a sequence of commitments for blues. They thrive on relationships and willingly sacrifice personal gain. Blues are highly demanding perfectionists. They can be distrusting and worry prone. They are complex and intuitive and can be very opinionated. Blues can also be emotional and moody. Blues can be self-righteous and insecure and can also be very self disciplined and sincere.
Blue Strengths Blues are steady, ordered and enduring. Blues love with passion. They bring culture and dependency to society and home. They are highly committed and loyal. They are comfortable in creative environments. They strive to be the best they can be.
Blue Limitations They are insecure and judgmental. Lacking trust they find themselves resentful or unforgiving. They often fail at seeing the positive side of life. They want so badly to be loved and accepted, constantly seeking understanding from others while often refusing to understand and accept themselves.

Whites: The Peacekeepers

Motivated by Peace, Whites will do anything to avoid confrontation. Their only demands from life are the things that make them feel comfortable. That feeling fosters their need to feel good inside.
White Strengths Whites are kind, considerate, patient and accepting. They are virtually devoid of ego. They are good at constructing thoughts that did not exist before, just from careful listening and taking time to think things through.
White Limitations Whites don’t commonly share what they are feeling, understanding or seeing. They won't express conflict. Whites may be unwilling to set goals. They dislike working at someone else’s pace. They can be very self-deprecating.

Yellows: The Fun Lovers

Yellows are motivated by Fun. They are here to have a great time.
Yellow Strengths Yellows are enthusiastic. They are very persuasive. They are spontaneous in nature. They are always looking for something new to do.
Yellow Limitations They develop friendships with ease but can be very self-centered. They often have lots of friends but on a superficial level. Their self-centered nature blocks them from forming meaningful relationship.

We got here and Life is GOOD!

I LOVE YOU!!!!   So everything went fine we got here and life is good the mission president and his wife are really cool and they are going to try to make me fat :(.  I am so excited to be here!  They are sending me to Chicoio(? not sure if thats right) and they are way into this personality color thing, they said I am a pure white, they said there as another elder that is the whitest person they have ever met, which is funny cause i have been the whitest kid ever in the other way lol.  Anyhow I am way happy I am finally here, it's awesome and the humidity is amazing I feel sooooo much better now.  Just wanted to let you know I made it here and I love it already!!! KAPLAGH!

Johannesburg, South Africa

SO After a 10 hour layover in London and 15 hour flight, Alex is in Johannesburg. They found some of their luggage so went hunting for the rest and ended up missing their overbooked flight.  So Alexander got to eat some Kentucky Fried Chicken at the airport while waiting for the next one.  Julie Jensen at the MTC Travel section answered the phone at 2am to get them on the next flight. I am going to have to send her a nice Thank You!! We hope Alex' mission president knows what's going on as Alex only has his number at work and he's on his way to the airport.
It was great talking to him again. He slept on the flight, said he woke up when the wheels hit the runway. Said it was great to sleep through all the pressure changes.  I guess I'm not getting any pictures of Africa from the air!  He feels like he's a million miles from home.  He said that he can't understand anyone there though they seem to be speaking English.  I hope he gets to the mission home safe and timely and gets some sleep!
So exciting!
